On a sunny evening at Barby two young sides played an excellent game of junior cricket. With many players on both sides making their debuts all did well. Barby won the toss and decided to field and we opened with Alex (more talent than his father) Cox and Thomas who was helping out from Barby. A good start was made with good positive running from Alex. Will Orton and Luke Haywood followed and without losing a wicket put on 21 with an excellent four from Will. Scott Haywood and William Hoggarth continued the good work with some good looking cricket shots. This set it up for Captain Will Eadon and new girl Ella (more talent than her brothers) Mitchell. Ella batted fantastically well and was ably support by Will who smashed 18 including 4 fours. We finished on 245 which was competitive but could have been more as unfortunately we had lost 7 wickets along the way although credit to Barby for some excellent catching.
Will E and Will O opened the bowling and were keeping it tight and this was followed by good work from William H. Scott, Alex and Ella kept the score in check but we were struggling for the all important break through. This eventually came in the 11th over with a good run out by Will E and Scott and two balls later a fantastic catch by Will O made the game interesting. The last pair came into bat with the scores level and Ella bowled a maiden and Will H only went for 2 so one wicket (-5 runs) would put Itchington ahead. However despite a maiden by Ella and a great attempt at a catch by Luke, who did well all night behind the stumps, there was no breaking through the resolute defence of the Barby pair. So into the last over Barby just ahead but one wicket would change the game, however despite a great effort by Will E, dogged defence by Barby meant they ran out winners by 5 runs. A great game of cricket by two young sides played in an excellent spirit
