At last a sunny evening and with the ground looking in excellent condition Captain Will Eadon won the toss and had no hesitation in batting. Harry Heaven and Liam Aspinall opened the batting and after a wee hick-up on the first ball they both batted and ran well to put on 13 with Liam hitting an excellent 4. Luke Haywood and Will Orton batted steadily to put on another 17. Alex Cox and Scott Haywood then continued the good work against Buckbys most accurate bowlers and did well to take the score up to 239. This set up Will E and William Hoggarth who took the attack to the young Buckby side.. Will E hit the ball well and the shot of the day went to William H’s cover drive for 4. A good batting performance only losing two wickets set a competitive total of 271.
Harry and Scott opened up and bowled excellently with Harry clean bowling the opener and Scott unlucky to have a wicket ruled out due to fielders talking as he bowled (Bad news having your Dad umpiring!) Next ball however an excellent piece of fielding by Harry, and Scott doing well to gather the ball, resulted in a run out. Liam and Will O carried on the good work and Will took a wicket clean bowled with his last ball. The game changed during the next four overs as William H bowled two maidens and well supported by Alex also with a maiden. We also had two runs outs with a direct hit by Liam and another by Will E and this left Buckby needing quite a few off the last overs. Will E then took two wickets one cleaned bowled and the second an excellent diving catch by our ever improving wicket keeper Luke meant Long Bucky finished on 224. A good win with excellent encouragement by all in the field although still areas for improvement required as just a few too many wides bowled.
