Battling collapse costs Itchington at Lapworth

After a successful win against Shipston last weekend Itchington travelled to second place Lapworth knowing a win would mean places would be swapped by the two teams.

Clarke won the toss and decided to bat on another scorcher of a day.

Goatley and Jack got Itchington off to a really positive start and the home side had gone very quiet in the field.

28-0 after 5 overs, Itching cruising but in good Itchington fashion, 28-0 changed to 41-5 as Cross and Hadden ripped through the Itchington top order.

Burnell (27) and Clarke (16) started to rebuild the innings and their partnership of 39 started to hopefully put a score on the board but Clarke was trapped LBW and Burnell went soon after.

Lapworth cleaned up the tail and Itchington were all out for 99. Cross finishing with 10-3-27-4 and Mason 5.1-2-6-4.

Big performance needed and early wickets could make it interesting. Itchington delivered and Bennett and Wood taking 4 wickets between them. Lapworth in real trouble of 28-4. Pressure on but Cross (59)showed his class and was well  supported by Comley(20). Lapworth reached their target in the  28th over.

Lapworth won by 5 wickets.

Itchington look to get back to winning ways next week (30th June) at home to Tanworth.
